Marketing is a complex thing to
study, especially in cellphone marketing. The companies try to convince people
to buy their products, yet if a company wants to sell a cellphone product in
another country to make a good profit, it must have a different marketing
technique. For example, America and China are the biggest countries in the
world; however, they do not use the same marketing techniques to sell cellphone
products. Moreover, the most different marketing techniques between these two
countries are the brands, costs, and add-ons.
In
America, we always can buy a lot of global brands cellphones, like Apple,
Samsung, Microsoft, and HTC. In America, the global brands just need to compare
to another global brand, yet in China, they have a lot of local brands like
OPPO, XiaoMi, ZTE, and HuaWei. Of all the cellphone companies in China, the
most famous sells local brands. Companies that want to make a profit in China
need to compare and sell global and local brands. For example, back in 2010,
Samsung had made a lot of in money in China, but now because Samsung ignored
the local brands in China, they lost 50% of their customers. Moreover, global
brands are more focused on quality, but local brands are cheap. Cellphone buyer
need to choose which is more important, quality or price.
Some people say “all the cellphone are the same price, no matter which country
they buy from." However, in America, most people use a contract to get a
phone. Also, most Americans refuse to buy a cellphone at full price, like
payphones. In contrast, in China, not many people use contracts to buy a phone.
They just buy a phone and pay for the minutes. In China, if people want to
change their cellphones, they do not have to get out of their contracts because
not many people use contracts in China. Some global brand cellphone company
tried using contracts to sell cellphones before, yet they end up failing and
almost had to drop out of China’s cellphone market. Furthermore, the cellphone
market in America is more dependable in cellphone service providers because
people are buying cellphones with contracts. In China sales are more dependent
on customer choice. For example, in China, people buy phones without a
contract, so they can change their cellphone service anytime they want.
Everybody likes gifts or add-ons.
In China, the most famous marketing techniques is when people buy a product or
item, they always get a lot of free add-on
too. For example, someone in China buys a cellphone product; he or she always
gets Bluetooth headset, TV box, or earphones with the product-all for free. All
of this add-on can only be added for free in China. For example, I have a
friend in China who just bought a Samsung cellphone product, and he got a free Bluetooth
headset with it. On the other hand, in America, with that exception of Apple,
which give away free earphone to people who buy the IPhone, people will not
find a lot of free add-ons because the marketing technique in America is
different..
No matter if you are in Asia or
Europe, they always have a lot of different cellphone marketing techniques. It
is important to know how to use the right techniques to sell a phone. A lot of
cellphone companies try to make a profit in China, but some cellphone companies
just fail so miserably. If someone wants to make a lot of profit from selling
phones in China, they better know what kind techniques to use because China has
the biggest population in the world, and they need and use cellphones.
There is always some differences and similarities between two cultures in certain aspects. I like your idea of comparing Chinese and American marking techniques in technology field. Your blog tells me some details that I have not noticed before. I like your take-away message too, "don't ignore China because it's powerful". Well done, Long!
ReplyDelete1 - "however, they do not use the same marketing techniques in the cellphone product. Moreover, the most different marketing techniques between these two countries are brand, cost, and add-on." You can combine 2 sentences in 1 sentence.
ReplyDelete2 - In America, Apple & Microsoft are local brands.
3 - "Moreover, the global brand is more force in the quality, and the local brands are cheap and good." What do you mean when you say that? Can you explain more about it?
4 - In America, cell phones are buy under contracts. I think providers of mobile telephone like AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon that already have the add-on such as the discount in contract bill or the gift card for contract owners.
5 - "Yet, if they use the same marketing techniques in China, they will not get a lot of attention except Apple." I do not understand what you are trying to say?
